Four different educational institutions are joint spatially and thematically together in a new Bildungshaus. Manifold uses and functions require a flexible as clearly structured building concept. The building is conceived as a landscape, which allows both smooth transitions and clear separation of the different uses and exciting references from inside and outside. By dividing the building in topographic bands with incised bands of light the clear structure and the landscape analogy is strengthened. A public landscape and knowledge band is the central feature of the building and represents the expansion of the park onto the building. There you find amenities such as an outdoor stage, gardens and outdoor spaces of the libraries. Exciting views both in the city and in the park make the band an attractive location.
The landscape design thematically reflects the combination of city and countryside: Flowing spaces create a strong connection between inside and outside. On ground floor level the forecourt forms the transition to the city, which gives access through the market street inside the building to the open countryside at the foot of Klieversberg. The design of so called learning fields corresponds to the use inside the building.
The competition entry was created in cooperation with TOPOS – Landscape Planning.
