As a high-quality in-between space, the ‘Entwicklungsgebiet D’ lies adjacent to the historical urban fabric of Favoriten and the growing, contemporary urban area of the new main train station. As a mixed-use district, the area functions both as knot between the characteristic housing area in the South and the international staion area, and as a gradient between the outskirts and the center. The focus of the concept is the generation of a trend-setting and healthy living and working district. The aim is to both fulfill the diverse demands on contemporary living and free space typologies and merge with existing and newly created urban fabric.
Crucial part of the project is a pathbreaking traffic concept that can react to the changing neccessity of parking spaces. In time, a reallocation of former car-traffic spaces to urban activity spaces, parks and bikelanes for instance is possible.
