In Rotterdam, The eye hospital building is situated next to the research and rehabilitation facility Visio. Both companies are in need for an air ridge connecting the two buildings. Besides it’s main function, the bridge is also supposed to be an eye catcher.
The two buildings of the Oogziekenhuis and Visio are growing together – a gesture that is expressed by the air bridge and clearly visible from the oogboulevard. The Rotterdam air bridge is both a formal connection between the two buildings, as well as an architectural sculpture forming the exact moment when the two buidings are growing together by organic pathways, generating a “natural-hightech nerval system.” The material reflects both buildings in an abstract and distorted way into the street, welding them together, interweaving them. For the passers-by, an image of poetic movement, a constant whirling and changing in the process of the two buildings joining together is created.
