By installing Streiflicht in the foyer of the cultural center “Anker” we re-interpret the chandelier and turn the room into a proper foyer. While the classic chandelier often is a heavy-weight design fixture at a central location, Streiflicht extends two-dimensionally over the entire ceiling into the project area and under the canopy. The bands of light strips start at the two entrances and run with different pulsing together, overlap, forming polyrhythmic densities and even flow at some points down the wall.
So the light sculpture serves also as signage.
The different rhythmically arranged gradations structure the bands of lights. They are inspired by the stage lighting and the music-theoretical concept of meter as a regular stress pattern of the background for the time structure of a piece. The lighting installation unfolds on the surface and turns into a graphic element. The walls kept free as far as possible, to ensure a multifunctional use of the foyers as an exhibition or meeting place. At dusk the foyer turns into a lantern and radiates outward – so the cultural center becomes clearly visible and makes the people curious for its program and activities.
