Not far from the Albertville school where the rampage took place, a memorial as a place for mourning and remembrance will be placed in the city garden. The landscape sculpture should be a place of abidance, of peace, but also of reflection, grief and hope. For both the victims and their relatives, for all visitors and citizens of Winnenden which where left in shock after the killing spree, this is their space for attention and community. The city garden will be elevated and then cut. This cut, resembles the scar that has changed the lives of the poeple in Winnenden forever. The cut is directed to the school building. Every year in spring, the inside of the cut is transformed into a field of spring flowers.
This way, the memorial reminds us of the fact that another year has passed, but also shows us the beauty of things and how they can change over time. Besides grief and remembrance, a beautiful and sublime component is added to the memorial.
