Neukölln is changing – at first, the transformation process the district’s appearance and residence has been undergoing was a subtle one, now it is omnipresent and visible at every corner. SPAR*K’s office exists in the district since three years and is thus part of the gentrification process in Neukölln. In the public discussion, gentrification is increaingly seen as the beginning of an evil process. In a before – after comparison of the actual situation, the reality is different. Is the new, changing Neukölln so much worse than the old district? Which qualities can be saved from the old, how do old and new get along with each other? Neukölln ist affected by change, immigration and a cultural mix, characterizing the district not just in recent years.
SPAR*K describes ‚Transformation‘ & ‚Gentrification‘ as the kinetic sculpture CRHOMIFICATION, a constqantly changing installation playing with space and reflection. The SPAR*KSTUDIO is transformed in the SPAR*K-characteristic principle: the boundaries of the existing space are questioned and atmospherically modified. CHROMIFICATION is an organic sculpture, consisting of thousands of recycled compact discs which demonstrates: it can be exiting, beasutiful and fascinating if something new gets created out of something old– and everything just looks better if you chromium-coat it. The installation is supported by animated projections and light. As last year, the theatre performance group RAMPIG is performing their piece ‘SCHLACHTHOF’/’Slaughterhouse’.
